Adopt A Highway – Part 1

If you’re familiar with Washington State Route 509, you’ll know that the part of of it that runs through Burien had been looking pretty shabby over the past few years.  There were litter and junk strewn all over the sides of the highway.

Charlie Perkins, a long-time Localist, took the bull by the horns and worked tirelessly with Washington State Department of Transportation to adopt our first section of 509.

As of March, 2018, we’ve completed 2 clean-up events, and the section of highway now looks great!  Check out the lack of litter, and of course, our sign next time you’re traveling along the road.
